Netherbird — Hymns From Realms Yonder – Out April 2017

NETHERBIRD sprung into existence October 30th 2004 in Stockholm, Sweden when Nephente, Bizmark and Grim decided to start collaborating. The was goal was to create harsh metal with influences from both black and death metal without any regard or limitation when it comes to style or even line up. Since their journey began, the band has released four well-received albums featuring guest appearances from members of At the Gates, Katatonia, Lord Belial, Dissection, among others.

A broad retrospective of all rarities, covers and non-album tracks throughout Netherbird history, Hymns from Realms Yonder is a must-have for every collector. Tunes that were once available as digital releases only have now been gathered into one CD summarizing the band’s creative journey through the first decade of its existence. Written and recorded during different session and lineups, these songs present a staggering sonic rollercoaster when it comes to their sound, tone and atmosphere, at the same time remaining recognizable and keeping all the distinctive elements that made Netherbird who they are today.

Original tunes (single b-sides as well as limited EP’s material) are neighboured by several cover versions of renowned classics of metal and obscure alternative, including Annihilator, Paradise Lost, and Sentenced. Vika Yermolyeva’s masterpiece piano rendition of Pillars of the Sky is definitely a rare gem to crown the album. The release is scheduled for the 7th of April, 2017, via Black Lodge Records.

Lunatic Hooker – Embracing The Filth [Grind/Sludge on Black Bow Records]

RELEASE DATE: 17.04.17

The music business can be spirit crushing and soul destroying. Bands that start as groups of friends with a passion for music can end up disillusioned, with the flames of their passion near extinguished. This happened to George, Ross, Tim, Duncan and Rafael in their respective bands – but rather than let those last flickering embers burn out for good, they got together to forge a new entity and reignite the fire. The five friends got back to basics – a rehearsal room, some beer and blasting out the music they loved at insane volume and velocity. Every last ounce of fury and frustration was poured out in a barrage of blast beats. The dam holding back the anger burst and Lunatic Hooker came roaring, screaming, howling into the world.
Through that powerful, cathartic cleansing process, every band member began to reconnect with everything they had loved about extreme music in the first place and the fire quickly became an inferno of creativity and adrenaline. Before they knew it the band were ripping up stages with Magrudergrind, Fit For An Autopsy, Attan, Corrupt Moral Altar, Conjurer and Hang The Bastard, recording a monstrous, twisted cover of the Motörhead classic ‘(We Are) The Road Crew’ for a tribute album – and working on their full length debut.
Now that album is complete and straining at the leash, with the date of release set for April 17th on Black Bow Records. Mastered by Anaal Nathrakh’s Mick Kenney, Embracing The Filth features twelve tracks of punishing, pulverising death/grind, crackling with that irresistible rediscovered electricity. There’s so much more to this album than just that exhilarating rush though. The songs have been immaculately crafted and are overflowing with fantastic, memorable riffs, wicked hooks and searing lead work. From the explosive opener, ‘My God Is Bigger Than Yours’ to the crushing sludge landslide of ‘Sarlac’, Embracing The Filth is a stunning demonstration of just how captivating and accomplished truly extreme music can be. With artwork created by Dan Capp of Winterfylleth, Embracing The Filth is the complete package, the real deal and those flames are burning higher than ever.
George – Vocals
Ross – Guitar
Tim – Guitar
Duncan – Bass and vocals
Rafael – Drums

Out Now On Hells Headbangers – HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH

“Heaven Bled” (12″ Gatefold LP w/ 7″ EP)

Pressed as a 12″ with 7″ housed in a gatefold cover with gold foil stamping on the front and back. Available on gold and black vinyl. Features a different layout than the European pressing.

HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present the long-awaited comeback album of HOBBS’ ANGEL OF DEATH, Heaven Bled. Helmed by one relentless maniac named Peter Hobbs, HOBBS ANGEL OF DEATH are one of the more unsung cult favorites of ’80s metal. Hailing from Australia many years before it was cool to do so, the band released two classic demos in 1987, Angel of Death and the telltale Virgin Metal Invasion From Down Under, before time came for the inevitable debut album. That album, 1988’s Hobbs’ Angel of Death, was released by Steamhammer during the label’s glory years, and quickly found a devoted legion of fans enthralled to HOBBS’ Kreator-meets-Dark Angel style of deathrash. With a unique charisma that was devilishly gleeful in a sense, Hobbs’ Angel of Death sired the band’s self-tagged “virgin metal,” which worked in both connotations of the word. It would be many years before a follow-up, 1995’s Inheritance, and the band broke up not long after.

Come 2002, however, HOBBS’ ANGEL OF DEATH would re-form and play a number of European festivals and scattered tour dates over the next decade, but aside from the Hobbs’ Satan Crusade compilation of the two demos, no new material had yet arisen. But now, courtesy of longtime fans HELLS HEADBANGERS, the first all-new recording of HOBBS’ ANGEL OF DEATH in over two decades has finally come to pass. Titled Heaven Bled, this 12-song firestorm of thrashing death metal (“deathened” thrash?) proves that time has not dulled Peter Hobbs’ passion one bit nor do the band once rest on their laurels. Much like ATOMIC AGGRESSOR’s Sights of Suffering – which HELLS HEADBANGERS released to widespread acclaim in 2014 – Heaven Bled is undoubtedly infused with HOBBS’ classic past, but is recast in a powerfully streamlined manner where the songwriting and execution take center stage and rawness and youthful enthusiasm are no longer the guiding principles. There’s demonic fury in abundance, but it’s tempered with the quiet confidence of age and wisdom, through which Hobbs LOUDLY casts his incisive gaze on a whole host of subjects, each one more vitriolic (and catchier) than the next. Altogether, Heaven Bled is a timeless blend of extreme metals throughout the ages, sounding as fresh as HOBBS’ ANGEL OF DEATH’s explosion onto the international scene in 1987.

CEMETERY URN – Cemetery Urn – CD / LP / TAPE / T-SHIRT

HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present CEMETERY URN’s long-awaited third album, Cemetery Urn, on vinyl, CD, and cassette tape formats. HELLS HEADBANGERS previously worked with CEMETERY URN in releasing the band’s first two albums – 2008’s Urn of Blood and 2010’s The Conquered Are Burned, both originally self-released on CD – on vinyl in 2011.

Formed in 2006 in Melbourne, CEMETERY URN specialize in a vicious, martial form of death metal they’ve branded “”Australian Barbaric Death Metal.”” The band itself has a deep history in extreme metal: founding guitarist and songwriter Andrew Gillon also hails from reactivated Aussie barbarians ABOMINATOR, and previously played in the final lineup of BESTIAL WARLUST; original vocalist Damon Bloodstorm was renowned as the frontman for BESTIAL WARLUST and for ABOMINATOR from 1996-2001; new vocalist Chris Volcano is the founding drummer of ABOMINATOR – and more recently their vocalist – and concurrently plays drums in Ignivomous, and previously played drums on a handful of DENOUNCEMENT PYRE’s EPs, Urgrund’s Unchangeable Fate album, and DESTROYER 666’s Six Songs With the Devil demo; and new drummer Matt Crossingham has played with such bands as Belligerent Intent, Scars of Sodom, and Draconis Infernum.

CEMETERY URN are a study in staunch self-reliance. Their first two albums were released on Gillon’s own label, Cemetery Recordings, and the band self-booked two highly successful tours across the United States: the Blood of the Damned U.S. Tour in June 2008, which encompassed 17 shows alongside Angelcorpse and Gospel of the Horns, and the Western U.S. Torment Tour in October 2010, where they headlined 10 shows through Texas, California, Oregon, and Washington State. Now, armed with the support of HELLS HEADBANGERS, CEMETERY URN are prepared to unleash their most decisive and devastating attack yet in Cemetery Urn. A ten-track nuclear warhead, CEMETERY URN’s third album takes the unremitting savagery of their first two full-lengths to its furthest extreme yet, exhibiting both power and poise in the middle of an incendiary maelstrom, and further solidifying the band’s reputation for upholding Australia’s rich tradition of extreme metal barbarity.”

SCUMRIPPER – “Scumripper” (7″ EP)

HELLS HEADBANGERS is proud to present SCUMRIPPER’s self-titled EP on 7″ vinyl. Self-released digitally late last year, Scumripper is the nasty, sewage-drenched debut offering from this trio of vocalist/guitarist Rat Pitt, drummer Son Stalker, and bassist Cliff Hunger. With an MO like that, it’s no surprise that SCUMRIPPER charge forward with a short ‘n’ swift attack of grinding metalpunk rooted in the likes of Repulsion, The Mentors, Abscess, and Autopsy’s punkest moments. It’s violent and vile, but also immediately memorable and mandatorily headbanging. A cursory reading of some of Scumripper‘s song titles – “Shit Needle Crown,” “Cum Killa,” “Run to the Pills,” and especially “Gutter Heights” – should soundly spell out exactly where these three miscreants are coming from. Take a quick trip through the gutter with SCUMRIPPER, and await their forthcoming debut album from HELLS HEADBANGERS!

Blood of Angels -New Track From Debut EP

Hailing from one of the epicenters of extreme metal, Blood of Angels are set to up the ante with their imminent release “Rise of the Fallen Gods.” This Floridian four-piece combines a vicious death metal attack with the atmosphere of black metal, all with flourishes of melody and Viking-themed lyrics. Featuring experienced musicians of the Jacksonville scene, the project combines the talents of current and former members of Motograter, Foreshadow, Denied Til Death, and Leprosy.

Like any band that is on the same page musically, Aaron Robinson (guitar), Michael Stewart (bass), Chris Iibucha (vocals) and Kevin Phillips (drums) have rolled together their collective experience from previous acts into a cold, clinical, yet passionate sound that will be unveiled on their debut EP “Rise of the Fallen Gods.” With hints of Dark Tranquility and Amon Amarth among other bands making up the palette of their sound, and a slick production to accentuate the pummeling drive of the music, the band is preparing to release on the 21st of April.

The lead single “Odin’s Wrath” is available on Bandcamp and YouTube, and will soon be accompanied by a music video as well. Following the release of the EP are plans to tour their home base of Florida, as well as expanding their horizons – as the band sees the live front as the best avenue to unleash their intensity.

Fist Of Satan 666 Podcast – Episode 2 – Death Metal

Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were the first real metal I ever listened to but it was the burgeoning death metal genre of the late 80s and early 90s that would start me down the road of extreme metal.

While I listened to the behemoths like Obituary, Death, and Morbid Angel (and pretty much anything coming out of Morrisound) I figured I would focus this podcast on the lesser known death metal bands of that time period instead.

I fondly remember tape trading with Chuck from Order From Chaos. I ordered a copy of their demo (I think it was Crushed Infamy) and he sent me extra covers and told me to dub copies for my friends. That small thing really opened me up to the underground scene!

Anyways, take a listen! Hope you like it.
