FUNERAL BAPTISM sign with Loud Rage Music

Funeral Baptism, the Bucharest Black Metal duo that recently took the Romanian Extreme Metal scene by storm with the release of their excellent second EP, Gate, have just reached an agreement with Loud Rage Music regarding the upcoming release of the band’s debut album, scheduled for the second part of this year.

Funeral Baptism was formed back in 2014 in Villa Gessel, Argentina by guitarist Damian Batista. The same year, the “Blasphemous Desires” EP is released, showing a straightforward black metal style with an atmospheric twist.

In 2016 the band is relocated to Bucharest, Romania and with the inclusion of new vocalist, Liviu UstinescuFuneral Baptism releases their second EP named “Gate” in March 2017.

This new EP introduces a more aggressive style adding a death metal influence yet retaining the atmospheric overtones of the first release.

At the moment the band’s line-up is made of 2 members

Damian (ex-Akral Necrosis) – guitar/bass
Liviu (Din Umbra) – vocals/lyrics

Prog-Sphere Premiere Guitar Shredder Matt Chanway Playthrough Video ‘271114’; Debut Album Out Now!

Guitar virtuoso Matt Chanway has made a name for himself with well-regarded Canadian death/thrash metal band Assimilation.

Last December, Chanway unleashed his self-titled solo debut album: a sonic masterpiece that merges the old and new school. Razor sharp riffs meld with soaring solos; progression with power! Inspired by the likes of George Lynch and Jeff Loomis, Chanway (who has a diploma in guitar performance from the University of West London) is the ideal guitar hero for the 21st century!

Describing his sound as “melodic, relentless, energetic progressive metal” and influenced by the likes of Nevermore, Circus Maximus, Tony Macalpine, Aghora and Revocation, Chanway explains that “initially this music was written for a progressive metal project called Chancellor in 2011. After leaving that band, I gradually morphed the tracks into instrumental tunes.”

Chanway reveals his writing process is always honest and organic. “I write all of the guitar parts, generally starting from one theme or motif and just continually building upon it, to create a flowing cohesive piece. Never forcing or rushing anything for the sake of releasing new music. The guitar themes are authentic; the riffs are catchy and addictive.”

Teaming up with Prog-Sphere.com, Chanway demonstrates his shredding skills with his new playthrough for his track ‘271114′ at the following link: http://www.prog-sphere.com/specials/matt-chanway-271114-playthrough-premiere/

Chanway also states that this is also no studio project and is looking forward to playing his album live, promising “a very authentic recreation of some very challenging music, of course instrumental music is always a different ballgame in a live context. People tend to hone in on the guitar a lot more, and the unique voice it can bring as the band leader!

As well as his own solo album, his band Assimilation will unleash their eagerly-awaited debut album ‘The Laws of Power’ on March 17, 2017, Chanway’s new album is the perfect instrument precursor to that! Not content to rest on his laurels, Chanway is also planning a further instrumental album for 2018.

Track Listing:
1. Evidence of the Arcane (6:22) (instrumental)
2. The Receiver of Wisdom (6:58) (instrumental)
3. Harbinger 2.1 (8:24) (instrumental)
4. 271114 (6:48) (instrumental)
5. Eyes In The Sky (5:48) (instrumental)
6. Lucidity (6:26) (instrumental)
Album Length: 40:49

“Burstfire solos, frantic time signatures, complicated riffing and the like are all signposts of an artist who wants to see how far he can go. Unsurprisingly, this ambition pays off. The release could stand on its own as proof that Matt could play alongside the world’s greatest in shred guitar.” – Prog Sphere Magazine

“The progressive metal genre never ceases to provide scores of insanely skilled guitar-slingers, and Vancouver’s Matt Chanway can now be recognized as another mind-blowing practitioner of the style.” – Guitar.com

“Ferocious, fast, and fucking awesome, Matt Chanway indeed has a scintillating skill that surely many would aspire to. His compositions are interesting, invigorating, intense, and inspiring: everything instrumental prog metal should be.” – Swept Media

“The team members of West Metal Entertainment poured their sweat and blood into making this year’s line up for Armstrong Metalfest the best year yet! A large portion of this year’s line up consists of bands who will be releasing albums in 2017. The fact that so many bands in Canada are able to write and record quality material is a real testament to the thriving metal scene we have. The band submission process is a grueling gauntlet of awesomeness, but personally I love every second I dedicate to the brilliant artists of Canadian Metal!

I am especially excited to have Revocation on this year’s edition of Armstrong Metalfest. Their style is hella fitting for the festival and I know they will be well received! Also, their album “Great Is Our Sin” is fantastic front to back. I’ll be front row center screaming my heart out for sure!

X.Kernel – Face The Truth [Ukrainian Melodic Death Metal] on Cimmerian Shade Recordings

X.KERNEL – FACE THE TRUTH
LABEL: CIMMERIAN SHADE RECORDINGS
RELEASE DATE: 07.04.17
The members of X.Kernel first came together in the city of Kiev, in the Ukraine. Initially they were inspired by the sounds of the Gothenburg metal scene – the hard hitting but overtly melodic music of bands like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and Soilwork – but as their individual talents blossomed and their song writing skills flourished, so did their unique musical identity. While melodic death metal remained the bedrock of their sound, X.Kernel began to expand and develop in new and exciting directions.
The first hints of just what a potent force X.Kernel were to become could be heard on their 2013 EP, Kingdom Of Pain, a digital self release. Now, after some line-up changes and four years of hard work, all X.Kernel’s potential has been realised in the incredible sounds of their debut album, Face The Truth. The vocal style has expanded to embrace soaring, emotive singing alongside the savage snarls and roars, the keyboard work of Alina Borodkina has come into its own, taking on a defining role in the songs and the music has embraced an exciting, adventurous spirit. The guitars still fire out superb riffs and spiral up into breathtaking solos and the rhythm section can still deliver a hammer blow of heaviness, but X.Kernel are carving out something more. Face The Truth is the sound of a band who are determined to stand out from the crowd, to lead the pack not just run with it.
The quality of Face The Truth was recognised by US label Cimmerian Shade Recordings who were quick to welcome X.Kernel to their roster. Now, on April 7th, the rest of the world will be able to hear the results of this metallic alliance. X.Kernel have combined a mastery of established forms with a fresh and expansive outlook, married depth and emotion to technical skill and forged an album that will capture hearts, minds and souls with its arrival on the field of battle.
Line-up:
Max Sklyar – Vocals
Nikita Larionov – Guitar, Vocals
Alina Borodkina – Keyboards
Oles Malezhyk – Bass

Genre: Melodic Death Metal
For fans of: Dark Tranquillity | Soilwork | In Flames | Evergrey

LAVA INVOCATOR – Mörk – Out Now!

LAVA INVOCATOR is a mystical black metal formation from Ukraine, the idea of which originated in the small Swedish town of Lund, near Malmö… Dark storm clouds over the Öresund strait, black rocks, high forests and whispers of mysticism mixed in an infernal whirlwind of emotions – so originated the concept of the band.

The band was founded in 2015 by members of another Ukrainian black metal band DEF / LIGHT, after which the team immediately began partaking in concert activities. Infrequent, but with powerful and atmospheric performances, the band quickly won the minds of the circle of audiences, the red-hot lava was deeply ingested and filled among the souls of metalheads. The sound of LAVA INVOCATOR is a dense and verified alloy of iron and steel – tough and uncompromising, and at the same time melodic and atmospheric.

“Mörk” (from Swedish – “Dark”) is the debut work of the band. With the 07 nefarious tracks, the generated music of this album walk the pathway of the traditional black metal, inspired by such icons of the genre such as Dissection, Mayhem, Dark Funeral, Ulver, Darkthrone, etc.  The presence of both malicious ferocity and dismal aura of black metal can be descried.

The Band Stated

“The album is conceptual in essence and puts the listeners in the picture of the story of an intangible essence, which is dark and gloomy in nature”

Ottawa Doom LONGHOUSE Stream ‘No Name, No Marker’; New Album ‘II: Vanishing’ Out April 14th

For Fans of Cult of Luna, High on Fire, Neurosis, Khemmis, Unearthly Trance

Ottawa, ON’s LONGHOUSE came into being in 2013 when guitarist Marc Casey and bassist/vocalist Joshua Cayer turned their long-standing song-writing partnership into a full band with drummer Mike Hache to complete their circle of dark, riffy, heavy textured doom metal. They released their debut album ‘Earth from Water’ in 2015, a spiritual odyssey into the perseverance of the human spirit and the lessons we can learn from the natural world.

In November 2016, LONGHOUSE returned to Wolf Lake Studios to record with Mike Bond (Loviatar, Norilsk, Arms of the Girl) once again as producer and engineer for the outcome to be their sophomore album entitled “II: Vanishing”. The album continues the pleasing progression of their debut while retaining the band’s core sound of heavy, intricate riffs, splashed with a touch of post-metal to guide you on a dark and visceral journey spanning nearly 40 minutes over five tracks.

“II: Vanishing has a logical evolution that is evident in the composition, as well as production. I also think that fans should take a moment to reflect on some of themes that are threaded throughout the album.” says vocalist / bassist Joshua Cayer. “The bulk of my ideas musically and lyrically come from exploring Indigenous ways of knowing. I am Algonquin First Nations. My family’s community is Kitigan Zibi, outside of Maniwaki, QC. However, I grew up in the city, mostly detached from my culture. As a father, I have been trying to immerse myself in the stories, wisdom, and strength of our Elders, knowledge keepers and story tellers, so that I can pass that on to my daughters. Because this takes up so much space in terms of who I am, and who I am becoming, it plays a very large part in terms of influences I draw upon.”

Those influences can be heard in LONGHOUSE‘s first single “No Name, No Marker”, a song written for the voiceless Indigenous children who were abused and died while forced to attend residential schools in Canada and were buried in unmarked graves.

“No Name, No Marker” streaming at https://longhouse1.bandcamp.com/track/no-name-no-marker-2

Youtube – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0tVcMo2YoY&feature=youtu.be

“II: Vanishing” will be unleashed digitally on April 14th via their Bandcamp with physical cassette release June 2017 (date to be determined) via Sunmask Records.

Track Listing:
1. Hunter’s Moon (8:38)
2. Vanishing (6:13)
3. Blood And Stone (5:57)
4. No Name, No Marker (7:59)
5. The Vigil (10:06)
EP Length: 38:55

––

“The one song from the album released for public listening so far is “No Name, No Marker“, and if you guess that refers to graves, you would be correct. It’s a riveting mix of doom and post-metal with blackened shrieking in the vocal department. After a haunting, grief-stricken opening, the track becomes heavier and more intense by orders of magnitude, eventually becoming a big juggernaut of earthquaking chugs and groaning chords, with guitar leads that shimmer, flicker, and spiral around the powerful rhythms like ghost lights. The wrenching vocals add to the music’s intensity, and the grinding bass solo is a nice touch as well.” – No Clean Singing

“Longhouse plays a musical style that takes sludge and doom metal and mixes them with with a very heavy vocal approach to create a very dark sounding recording, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover various spiritual and occult concepts.”  – Doomed to Darkness
